From leading logistics to world-class warehousing, Joda Freight is going where others can’t
Renowned across the UK and Europe for exceptional reliability and professionalism, Joda Freight (Joda) is the haulage and logistics company with a difference. Where others may flounder at difficult or awkward jobs, clients can trust Joda to rise to the challenge every single time, knowing that the job will be delivered with outstanding customer service and the highest levels of efficiency and care.
Joda’s journey began over 35 years ago as a start-up, founded by John Collett and Dave Wareing. The business started out small, with one 3.5 ton vehicle and a single client, but soon saw a stream of rapid, sustained growth. In 2023, Joda underwent a management buyout as John and Dave retired, and the company was purchased by Kieron Talbot-Sykes and Neil Tullett, marking a new chapter in the company’s story. The pair have been running the business ever since, and today, Joda encompasses a fleet of 65 vehicles across four warehouses.
In 2025, Joda is greater than ever, maintaining its stellar reputation as it proceeds to prove why it’s the logistics provider of choice for so many. Transportation & Logistics International is joined by Kieron Talbot-Sykes, who shares insight into what makes Joda so special, as well as what lies ahead on its continuing growth trajectory. Kieron begins by introducing Joda’s comprehensive scope of capabilities.
“We’ve tried to make sure that we’re not just a run-of-the-mill general haulage company,” he says. “We’ve got a fleet of 24 Moffett trucks and we’re adding another four later this year. We offer Hiab services, run low loaders in STGO vehicles so that we can pull heavy, out-of-gauge pieces of equipment, and carry out container work. We want to be the company that people go to when they’ve got something unusual to transport and no one else wants to deal with it.”
Over the years, this has been the differentiation between Joda and its competitors and has assisted in spearheading further growth for the business. In particular, its large fleet of Moffett trucks has allowed the company to broaden its scope of opportunity and take on a plethora of exciting projects across new horizons.
“Our self-lift capability makes us stand out amongst our competitors. A lot of companies claim that they ‘never say no’, but then when someone comes to them with something challenging, they haven’t got the capability. When somebody comes to us with a challenge and we don’t have that capability, we go and figure out how to do it to get the project over the line. We hope that this will help drive more business from, not only the customer at hand, but other customers who will see that we’ve got these specialist capabilities and equipment,” Kieron explains.
“A lot of companies run Moffetts, but there aren’t many who do so on the same scale as us, with 24 trucks. It gives us a huge capability; we can operate both nationwide and internationally. Last year, for instance, we supported the Paris Olympics because they needed someone with Moffett capability on an international scale. There are not many companies able to offer that service as Moffetts are few and far between on the continent. We don’t necessarily have a USP, but we’ve definitely got a niche within our market.”
With the demand for its services growing year on year, Joda has been focusing on expanding its capabilities even further to better serve an increasing demographic of customers. The company has been investing heavily in its warehousing, taking on an extra 72,000 square feet of warehouse space in 2024 and another 62,000 square feet this year. Additionally, Joda has acquired six new Volvo Aeros – a series of aerodynamic, environmentally-friendly trucks that’ll help to augment the company’s sustainability efforts.
“I think it’s important in this day and age that people see our efforts to make the business more sustainable. There’s not a lot the haulage industry can do, but by buying more environmentally friendly trucks such as these Volvo Aeros, we know we’re doing our bit,” Kieron highlights.
Despite a tumultuous few years filled with macroeconomic challenges, Joda has been able to not only sustain its success, but continue to prosper, and this growth can be credited to several different factors.
“I think the fact we’ve started actively marketing the business has made a huge difference to our growth. When a lot of companies were seeing downturns last year, we actually managed to sit level and stay profitable,” Kieron affirms. “The rate of transportation and logistics companies going out of business since Covid has been horrendous, and a lot of it has been driven by the fact that people have been so desperate for work that they’ll drop their prices to the point where they’re basically working for nothing.
“We’re not the cheapest, but we’re reliable. It’s not just about the bottom line; it’s all about the service you provide. That’s what sets us apart and has been the reason why we’ve been able to grow sustainably.”
Building on this steady stream of success, Joda is well-positioned to continue growing into the future. Looking to the years ahead, the business is planning on expanding into pick and pack logistics and hopes that its presence at Multimodal 2025 will help drive some new sales leads and customers in that sector. Kieron reveals that the company aims to open more bases in the next five years to further expand its network, and shares that the South of England could be a prospective location. No matter what the future holds, however, one thing will remain, and that is Joda’s dedication to driving excellence within every facet of the business.
