Garmin has launched a new side-mounted dual camera system designed to improve blind spot visibility and video capture for commercial drivers. The Dēzl DualView, available now at a suggested retail price of $999.99, offers real-time visual coverage of both sides of a truck and is built to integrate directly with Garmin’s over-the-road navigation systems.

The product is aimed at long-haul fleets and owner-operators seeking to enhance driver awareness, reduce collision risk during lane changes, and collect video footage during road incidents. Dual cameras stream live video to the cab and record automatically when the system detects an event. Video is saved locally on a microSD card, with optional cloud backup via a Garmin Vault subscription.

Designed to address blind spots and merging hazards

Commercial drivers often cite side visibility and adjacent traffic movement as critical safety concerns, especially in congested or multi-lane environments. The DualView system is Garmin’s response to these challenges, offering a dedicated view down the length of both sides of a vehicle.

The cameras mount flush to the truck’s exterior, either on side mirrors or flat surfaces. Live video streams to compatible Garmin dēzl OTR truck navigators, select RV navigators, or paired tablets. Visual alerts notify drivers when vehicles enter blind spots or approach merging zones. The goal is to reduce reliance on mirror-only driving, particularly during lane changes or slow maneuvers in high-traffic areas.

In addition to live feedback, the system records in 1080p HD when it detects a potential incident. That footage is automatically saved and can be reviewed in the cab or transferred wirelessly via the Garmin Drive app when connected to Wi-Fi.

Built with fleet environments in mind

The Dēzl DualView package includes two side-view cameras, a wireless transmitter box and all required mounting hardware. The cameras carry an IPX7 rating, which means they are designed to withstand water, dust, pressure washing, and exposure to fuels or road debris. This ruggedness supports year-round operation across varied climates and duty cycles.

Garmin’s product team notes that the design balances durability with minimal aerodynamic disruption. The flush-mount profile helps maintain fuel efficiency, an important consideration for operators managing cost per mile.

For fleet managers, the camera system introduces new layers of accountability and risk mitigation. By capturing HD footage during collisions or close calls, companies gain objective data for internal reviews, insurance claims, and driver coaching. The system also overlays critical metadata such as speed, time and GPS location when connected to a compatible device.

Scalable for solo operators and fleets alike

Although Garmin is known for its standalone navigation devices, the Dēzl DualView system expands the company’s footprint in active safety solutions. The voice-controlled interface allows drivers to request saved video clips or access system functions without distraction, provided they are paired with a supported dēzl navigator.

While the base system requires only a microSD card for recording, larger fleets may opt into the optional Vault plan for secure cloud storage. The subscription enables video sharing directly through the Garmin Drive app, simplifying evidence submission and archival workflows.

Garmin has stated that users without a subscription can still retrieve video via the memory card, ensuring the base-level functionality remains accessible without ongoing fees. Additional accessories such as memory cards are sold separately.

The system is now available through Garmin’s commercial distributor network, retail partners and online channels. As with all vehicle-mounted camera systems, Garmin advises users to consult local laws regarding in-cab recording and exterior camera placement.

Elevating visibility and data in fleet safety strategies

As the logistics industry continues to adopt digital tools to enhance performance, safety technology like Garmin’s DualView system is becoming more critical. For carriers navigating high claims environments and tightening safety compliance standards, side-mounted cameras provide a real-time and recorded view into moments that previously relied on secondhand accounts.

Side blind spot collisions are among the most frequent and expensive incidents in the commercial transport sector. Solutions that improve lateral visibility and incident documentation represent a relatively low-cost investment with high operational impact.

With this release, Garmin is not just providing visibility. It is offering a scalable system that contributes to proactive risk management and driver confidence behind the wheel.
