Lexus and Toyota Recall Thousands of Vehicles Due to Safety Risks
Toyota and Lexus have issued a recall affecting more than 140,000 vehicles in the United States. The recall was prompted by critical safety concerns involving brake system failures and seatbelt defects. due to critical safety concerns related to brake system failures and seatbelt defects. The recall covers popular models such as the Toyota Tacoma, Camry, Lexus NX, and RX.
Toyota, committed to ensuring vehicle safety, is taking proactive measures by offering free inspections and repairs to impacted customers. Vehicle owners are urged to check their recall status and take immediate action to ensure their cars remain safe for use.
Brake fluid leak issue: Toyota Tacoma’s potential safety hazard
One of the major reasons behind the recall involves the Toyota Tacoma’s braking system. Approximately 106,000 four-wheel-drive Tacoma trucks from the 2024 and 2025 model years are affected by a design flaw that can lead to brake fluid leaks.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration discovered that insufficient clearance between the rear brake hose and the wheel allows dirt and mud to accumulate. Over time, this buildup can cause damage to the brake hose, resulting in fluid leakage and a decline in braking performance.
Toyota has acknowledged the issue and is offering free replacements of the rear brake hoses at authorized dealerships. Owners of affected Tacoma trucks are encouraged to schedule an inspection as soon as possible.
Seatbelt integrity concerns: Lexus and Toyota models at risk
Another critical concern prompting this recall is a seatbelt defect affecting approximately 41,000 vehicles, including the 2025 Toyota Camry, 2025 Lexus NX, and 2024-2025 Lexus RX. Toyota has identified that a manufacturing flaw may weaken the second-row center seatbelt, reducing its ability to properly secure passengers in the event of a crash.
To resolve the issue, Toyota will inspect the seatbelt webbing and replace any defective seatbelt assemblies at no cost to owners. Customers are strongly encouraged to visit their nearest dealership for an inspection if their vehicle falls within the affected model range.
What vehicle owners need to do next
To ensure their safety, Toyota and Lexus owners should verify whether their vehicles are affected by this recall. Toyota plans to notify impacted customers by early April 2025. Owners can also check their recall status by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on Toyota’s official recall website or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) database.
If a vehicle is affected, owners should contact their local Toyota or Lexus dealership to schedule a free inspection and necessary repairs. Acting promptly can prevent safety risks and ensure that affected vehicles remain roadworthy.
