XPO Logistics Unveils Belgium-Turkey Multimodal Corridor

XPO Logistics, a prominent leader in freight transportation services, has announced the launch of a groundbreaking multimodal transport corridor connecting Belgium and Turkey. This strategic development is set to significantly enhance logistics capabilities, providing a more efficient and sustainable solution for trade between Europe and Asia.

Enhancing Connectivity and Efficiency

The newly established corridor spans approximately 2,600 kilometers, linking Antwerp in Belgium with Istanbul in Turkey. Utilizing a combination of road, rail, and maritime transport, this route aims to reduce transit times from ten days to eight days compared to road transport alone. The integration of different modes of transport not only expedites the transport process but also ensures more regular service throughout the year, even during peak seasons. This corridor improves linkages between major European and Asian markets, facilitating smoother trade flows and allowing businesses to move greater volumes of products efficiently and reliably. This is crucial for industries with tight deadlines and varying cargo needs, such as automotive, consumer goods, and manufacturing.

Christophe Verot, Managing Director for Central Europe at XPO Logistics, emphasized the transformative impact of this initiative: “Our dedication to multimodal transport solutions has been highly successful, strengthening XPO’s position in the combined road, sea, and rail transportation market. The implementation of multimodal solutions is a crucial step in enhancing the efficiency of our customers’ goods movement while also reducing their supply chain carbon footprint to help them meet sustainability objectives”.

Sustainability and Innovation at the Forefront

Sustainability is a cornerstone of XPO Logistics’ strategy. The new multimodal corridor is designed to minimize environmental impact, with rail transport producing approximately 80% fewer emissions than traditional road transport. This reduction equates to around 3,100 kg less CO2 emitted per trip, highlighting the corridor’s eco-friendly credentials. Moreover, XPO Logistics continues to innovate by offering a suite of low-emission sustainable solutions (LESS®), which includes alternative fuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil, natural gas, and electric options. These innovations align with global efforts to decarbonize supply chains and meet stringent sustainability targets.

The launch of XPO Logistics’ new multimodal transport corridor between Belgium and Turkey marks a significant milestone in the logistics industry. This initiative not only enhances trade efficiency and reliability between Europe and Asia but also underscores XPO’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. As global supply chains continue to evolve, XPO Logistics remains at the forefront, providing cutting-edge solutions that meet the dynamic needs of its diverse customer base.
